Glassmaker's Night at Brokis
What recently dazzled us so much that we decided to write about it? It wasn't an unusually quick negotiating with authorities, a breathtaking house renovation, or the most entertaining architectural study. It was the lighting manufacturer Brokis and its stunning presentation at the Glassmaker's Night.
As you surely know, the "COVID era" currently doesn't favor any organizers of large events. This applies to design fairs and presentations of innovations not only in the field of interior design. Fortunately, we didn't miss one such event. And we weren't alone. Architects, designers, and influencers came to Janštejn for the Glassmaker's Night. Brokis literally shone with its presentation in its glassworks, warming our hearts. We sat among the red-hot furnaces and listened to a passionate discussion. In the old non-operational smelter in the opposite building, beautiful designer lights hung between moss-covered walls. These were installations of new designs by Lucie Koldová, Vrtiška & Žák, and others.
One can shine, crisis or not
The topic of COVID came up as well. Brokis didn't start laying off staff or slowly turning off the lights. On the contrary. The company utilized the quarantine period and reduced orders to stock up and ensure people had work. A shining example of a smart and humane approach. Now, they are prepared to quickly fulfill all orders. Essentially, nothing stops them and the lights cheerfully continue to shine. We at OOOOX too found a way to work from home on projects, communicate with clients remotely, or handle implementations. The crisis took a lot from people but also gave a lot. It's about adapting and finding a sensible solution.
Light at the end of the tunnel
A presentation like this was a shining example that there's always a way. The powerful story of a strong family business simply gets under your skin much more than a long monologue at a trade fair booth. Brokis inspired us and reaffirmed its strong position in the world of design. Moreover, Brokis has the best lights... That's why you can see them at the Milan trade fair stands of all major furniture brands.
And finally, a little tidbit. Lucie Koldová – the creative director of Brokis, took over our old studio in Dejvice and photographed her Mona collection in our realization of the sculptor's studio Na Výšinách, and the Whistle collection in our barn.
