In previous installments, we have described the phase of architectural study, implementation documentation, and also negotiations with authorities. Today, we will outline how and why we collaborate with designers. You may be wondering why we don't handle the entire project, including the construction permit application? Personally, I believe that every activity has its own specifics, and it's good when it's done by someone who really understands it. Being an architect from the study phase, through the designer for permit documentation, handling communication with officials, knowing all construction materials as well as interior furnishings, and then even managing to fine-tune the interior with accessories is a pretty broad range of activities. In my opinion, it is not within the capabilities of one person to be perfect in all of these activities. Therefore, we have decided to focus on the parts that we are good at and that interest us. And that really isn't documentation for a construction permit. We have expanded our team to include external engineers who handle this part. This leaves us time for the more enjoyable activities. On the other hand, during their work, we constantly consult and mutually adjust everything so that all projects are interconnected.
And of course, the engineer surrounds themselves with other specialists in various fields: whether it's heating, structural engineering, or ventilation systems. During joint consultations, we first discuss your requirements for the technical equipment of the household and, based on experience, we may advise against some of them.
Often Unnecessary Requirements
It's very common for clients to have high expectations, whether it's for a smart home or for a ventilation system with heat recovery, even when the budget doesn't match these aspirations. It's important to weigh the benefits of each investment. For instance, it may be simpler and ultimately more satisfying to just open a window or use a traditional light switch instead of waving your hands under the dining table lights. Even with standard electrical installations, we can prepare your home to serve you comfortably without needing to control it through a phone or tablet, which you may not be able to find when you need it. Sometimes, a single central switch that you can press as you leave may be more convenient than tapping through multiple rooms on a tablet.
Why Hire Construction Supervision?
In larger projects, our experience shows that it's very advantageous when our project engineer also serves as the construction supervisor during implementation. This way, it's not necessary to incorporate numerous details into the design; they can be resolved on-site during construction. Furthermore, the design engineer has studied all the details, so there's no need for an extended examination of the project to find errors. It also holds true here that there will be multiple opinions on a single detail, and by having the design engineer on-site, we avoid debates and arguments about who had the better idea. Moreover, due to their professional authorization, the design engineer is personally responsible for everything.
