#DINING ROOM

More Than Just A Cooking Space

The dining room is the symbolic center of the living space.

We always give it the attention it deserves, and it's very important to establish from the beginning how much time you spend at the table. Is it just for quick dinners, or perhaps you don't even cook at home and prefer to eat out? Or does the dining table serve as a substitute for the living room, where most of the family life unfolds? Or is it explicitly a social affair, and do you often invite guests over for dinner? Based on this, we will choose not only the size of the table but also the materials.

What is comfortable may not be practical

For extended sitting, it's advisable to choose comfortable chairs, ideally upholstered. However, this goes somewhat against the fact that you have small children. In this case, leather chairs seem to be the best choice. Another consideration is armrests. They are comfortable for longer sitting, but it's very difficult to get up from chairs with armrests, as you can't "slide through" next to the adjacent chair. Therefore, chairs with armrests are best placed at the head of the table.

The Table is Fundamental

We choose the material of the table based more on the preferences of the clients and with regard to the overall harmony of the interior. We are very reluctant to place a wooden table on a wooden floor. This is because wood never matches in either color or structure. If we want the material to stand out nicely, we suggest tables with concrete tops or wood in a color, such as black, for wooden floors. Conversely, if the client wants a wooden table, we let it stand out on a concrete floor or tiled flooring.

We Tailor to Your Needs

When you opt for a custom-made table, you can perfectly match the color of all materials and design a table size that precisely fits the given interior. Sometimes we even design dining tables that are directly connected to the cooking island, offering an interesting solution of having the tabletop cantilevered into the space, thus eliminating the need for any legs. Chairs can then be placed around the table in any configuration. The base of the table is always very important in terms of how flexible you need the number of chairs around the table to be. If the number often changes, perhaps due to frequent larger gatherings, it is better to choose a central leg. If this requirement is not a priority, the classic four legs at the corners will suffice. And tables over three meters long are not an exception.

The dining room is also important in terms of lighting. It is above the dining table that the main dominant light of the entire space is placed.

And our tips:

  • Concrete Top – Great for maintenance, and even better to look at. A concrete table stands out beautifully even on a wooden floor.
  • Central Base – The advantage is the possibility of having a greater number of chairs around the table. The downside is that the base must be solid and heavy, complicating any manipulation of the table.
  • Deep Table – For larger dinners and plenty of food on the table, the ideal table depth is at least 90 cm.
  • Chandeliers – Where else to place a dominant light fixture that would take up too much space elsewhere. It doesn't matter that it won't shine sharply onto the plate; the lighting should make you feel comfortable at the table.
